Over the past year, I have been on a journey to simplify and live intentionally in all areas of my life. Hence the name, Live Intentionally. :)
The more I discover of horrors of the fashion industry, the less inclined I am to support big box retailers and major fashion brands. I've gotten to where I start to feel guilty for purchasing a cute cardigan or skirt from my usual stores, knowing how it was made, who made it, and the conditions those people are in. When I found out some of my favorite brands were employing men, women, and children to work in dangerous conditions for pennies a day, I was shocked. If you want to learn more about the fashion industries practices, I highly recommend watching The True Cost Film.
Since learning about how awful many of our favorite brands really are, I've also discovered some really incredible brands that are doing a lot of good in the world. I am thrilled to be able to partner with Re:New Project and shine a light on this incredible small business.
Re:New Project is a faith-inspired organization that provides employment, community, and hope to refugee women living in the United States. Rebecca, Re:New's founder, created Re:New Project in 2009 with a desire to empower women through dignified work, teach them a viable skill, provide safety and community, and give them a place to practice their English. (oh, and they also make reallllyyyy cute bags)
Re:New Project is a company that I have been following for a few months and have admired their message and mission. I was thrilled when they reached out and asked to send me a bag. As you know, I would never promote a product or brand that I don't stand behind 100%. I could not be more in LOVE with this bag, their story, and the quality of their products.
The ladies at Re:New sent me the Ahlam Foldover Clutch, and I have to say, this may be the one of the cutest bags I have ever owned. I don't care what season it is, I will be carrying this clutch around all. year. long.
I know, cute right?! Did I mention that all of Re:New's products are handcrafted in the USA using recycled textiles? The interior of the bag is a gorgeous green fabric that accents the texture on the upper flap of the clutch, and a label reminding you of the misson you are supporting through your purchase. The bag also features an adorable leather tassle zip. It's all of the little details that make this such a gorgeous clutch, and of course the story makes it that much more fabulous. Also, I want to mention that this bag fits a lot. Below is a photograph of some of the things I carried in the bag for the day, but it could fit a lot more.
At only $35.95, this clutch is an affordable way to begin building up a collection of ethical products that you can feel good about purchasing. I personally want to thank Gyulnara for handcrafting this bag, you did a beautiful job! It is so wonderful knowing exactly who makes your products, and they are treated with kindness, dignity, and given hope.
